1985 Eldorado - Rear Air Shocks Bad
The rear air shocks (level ride suspension) have crapped out. I don't know why. Most garages/mechanics I've asked about it don't seem very knowledgable about this suspension system. Does anyone know what the likely problem and solution is here? The car runs OK now, but it's got 146K on it, so if this is going to be a major expense it might not be worth the trouble. I don't want to pay someone a lot of dough to fix it only to find out it will break down again in a month or something like that. Any suggestions? And yeah, it's got the 4.1L engine. Thanks.

First of all does the the pump go on when weight is put in the back? If so check for leaks at the lines from the pump to the shocks, if the pump does not go on ( give it 60 seconds after loading the car) post back.

No, the pump does not seem to be working.

Re: 1985 Eldorado - Rear Air Shocks Bad
The leveling sensor in the rear suspension signals a relay that starts up the pump, check the fuses first see if the pump is getting powered by the relay when someone puts weight on the rear. Make sure the link from the rear suspension is connected to the sensor, you may need a comprehensive trouble tree for more complex diagnosis.
