Re: Trans dipstick for 2003?

If all you want to do is make it easier to fill then replace the top plug with a short nipple and a tee mounted horizontally (long side parallel to the tranny). Connect one end of the tee to whatever filling apparatus you want. Put a plug in the other end and remove the plug to verify level or drain it down to the right level if you overfilled it.

If you really want to get fancy, turn the tee 90 degrees (long side perpendicular to the tranny). Aim the short end up and permanently attach your filling tube. Fashion a homemade dipstick that can be inserted into the fill tube when you want to check the level. If it comes out with fluid on the end, level is OK. If it comes out dry, you're low.

If you use a cross instead of a tee, you could connect another nipple to an elbow connected to where the drain plug goes. Now your dipstick can reach into the fluid.

Of course, this assumes that you can find nipples whose threads match whatever the plugs are.

Of course, it would have been a lot easier if GM would have engineered a dipstick into the 4L30E to begin with.
