Jump start from 1996 Chevy Lumina

I want to use my 1996 Chevy Lumina to jump start my
wife's dead battery. I have located the "remote positive
terminal" for the battery in the Lumina, but the jumper
cable can't reach the negative terminal. Is there a way
I can work around this? Thanks in advance.

Snap the - jumper lead onto the engine lifting ring. Might have to wiggle it some to get to bare metal instead of black paint.

Re: Jump start from 1996 Chevy Lumina

if his Lumina is the good car - he needs to put the cables on his Positive AND negative battery terminals, to his wife's Positive on her battery, and then he can ground out the negative. So, I don't think your reply is accurate.

My neighbor needed a jump, and I wanted to use my '04 Venture, and i couldn't figure out how to get to my negative terminal on my battery. i ended up getting my '81 Trans Am over there to jump her car for her.

so - i re-ask the question, how do you get to the negative terminal on these vehicles????

You do NOT need to get to the negative terminal on the battery. You only need to get to a hefty piece of metal that is securely CONNECTED to the negative terminal of the battery.

Snap onto the lift ring of both engines...

Thanks Schurkey and bleepster --

Not sure where the engine liftiing ring is; I'll have to try
to look that up. But I clamped onto a bare part of the engine
(in both cars) and everything worked out. That is, at least
I didn't kill the Lumina. My wife's car cranked, but didn't start.
We're getting it towed. But with your help at least I didn't
make the situation worse. Thanks.

Don't worry about messing up the dead car, worry about sending a voltage spike to the running cars computer and frying it....
