Re: Best way to maintain my Impala for a long life?

mileage is better to change fluids by. oil 3-5k. synthetic oil is good stuff, lots of benefits with no drawbacks other than price.

I do change my oil by mileage - with regular trips back and forth 3 hours each way to our cottage - it usually only takes me about 6 weeks to get 3,000-4,000 km......

Re: Best way to maintain my Impala for a long life?

Hey, sorry to start up a old thread,

I just had my impala worked on, it was like a 1,000 dollars!

Basically when I accelerated really fast (flooring it) it would not go above 40 until I let go of the pedal, and put my foot on it again. I had my transmission check by some specialist (they only do transmission) and said it was fine. So I went to purcels, and they change my catalitic(spelling) converter, gave me a bigger one, and replaced some other parts in my engine.

Money well spent? The only thing I'm worried about now are my brakes, I hear like a metal on metal sound when I brakes after driving for 20 minutes. I don't think its the usual squeaking sound from the brakes rubbing together. What could it be?

Might just be time for new pads. the pads have wear indicator tabs on them, basically its a metal tab that sticks over the side of the pad, that when the pad gets low enough, that metal tab comes in contact with the rotor, which would be metal on metal. So you may just need new brake pads.

$1,000 includes Cat? Cat converter has extended warranty for 2000-2002(maybe more) impalas.
