no hot air

I am not getting very much hot air when my car is warmed up. Could this just be a thermostat problem?? The temperature gauge is showing normal (just below half on the gauge) and my fan motor seems to be working fine???

First thing to check would be the coolant level. Make sure it's topped off. Check the antifreeze to make sure it isn't too "dirty" looking (should be pinkish, not muddy colored). That would help determine if maybe the heater core is plugged. After that, it could be a problem with the mixer door not moving all the way when you call for heat, not quite sure how you'd troubleshoot that, as I don't recall if it's vacuum actuated or electrical.

When checking the coolant lever, also make sure you check where the coolant is coming from, if a leak exist.. Alero's are notorious for having a LIM gasket problem. If you aren't getting any heat because of low coolant, than I bet you've got a faulty LIM gasket. This forum has tons of info gasket problem.

coolant level is okay and not leaking. not sure if mixer door is moving all the way but seems ok. I had another vehicle (tracker) that was doing the same thing and cured it by changing the thermostat. Not sure if I should tackle this with my alero cause appears to be a hard place to get at by what I've read so far in the forum.

hi guys, my alero stopped airflow and no heat at all. what could be wrong? any idea.....

If you are just not getting any airflow out of the vents no matter what position the speed control is in then the possibilities are blower motor fuse, blower motor resistor assembly or blower motor.

I had my blower replased 2 months ago. it could be that as bnaylor3400 said it could be.

since last conversation, I have changed my thermostat and seem to be getting a bit more hot air (was getting lots of air flow but not very warm) but still not as hot as it should be. Checked my two hoses to and from heater core and one seems a lot hotter than the other one. Shouldn't they both be around the same temp????

Both hoses should be hot to the touch. One possibility is you may need to flush out the heater core. It may be clogged.

Also there is a temperature actuator that works electrically (motor driven) that controls the amount of heat through registers along with vacuum modules in the dashboard. It's controlled by the temperature control on the HVAC head unit.

No problem and you're welcome.

The HVAC head unit is just the main control panel which has all the AC/Heater/Vent controls. The actuator is located underneath the dash in the center area. It's located on the side of lower portion of the heater/evaporator assembly. To access you'll need to remove the kick panels that cover the bottom of the dash.

The vacuum actuators are also located there. They are controlled by the HVAC head unit but work off vacuum supplied by the engine. So it's important to make sure the vacuum lines are properly connected or haven't been disconnected.
