The little 4.3L is ok in a regular cab sportside. I don't know if it is just tuned with less torque management or what but when I first got mine it would lay rubber for a good 50 feet and chirp the tires from 30mph. I think I need a new timing chain because it won't do it anymore.

Re: got it!!
Oh my God, you mean you FINALLY committed! It's a miracle. Someone call the POPE!
But seriously....glad you picked a GOOD truck, not just one that looks good. I hope you like it, and don't worry. 4.3 L V6's are a peppy and suprisingly powerful engine!

Re: got it!!
If it's the 6 cylinder its a 4.3L. Rated at 200 hp and 260 lbs of torque I believe.

you bought a truck and dont know what motor it is?? i thought they quit the 4.3 back in 98 or 99 and went to the 4.8. the 4.3 went to 4.8 and the 5.7 went to 5.3.

oic thats news to me. i just thought they did away with the v6 in the fullsize trucks. i have never seen a 4.3 in a 99 or newer truck. i looked at 20 or 30 when i bought mine. and never saw one. 90% of them i saw had the 5.3 and thats what i got.

Re: got it!!
If it's a 6 cyl., its a 4.3 v6. GM has not started using the Atlas 4.6 I-6 in the full size truck yet. Check either on top of you airfilter box or on the plastic cover that is surrounding the hood catch on the truck, and there should be a sticker that says CATALYST on it, and that will have your engine size printed on it
