I did the same thing - and I'm still trying to figure out a method to do what you described too.

Re: Anyone buy a locking gas cap yet?
You might want to double check if it's necessary to have a locking cap! I inquired for our vans at work, and the dealer told me that all new cars have a screen at the bottom of the filler neck to prevent a hose from being pushed into the tank. He told me the only thing a locking cap will prevent is someone pouring a foreign substance into the tank.

Re: Anyone buy a locking gas cap yet?
I can appreciate wanting the teather on the cap. That part I plan to work out later. The locking cap I bought seems to be a pretty good one. It works by disengaging the cap from the plug and would be extremely difficult to remove (the cap will only spin loosly when locked). I dont know about the screen. Later today I'm going to try and put a skinny hose down there to see. The other thing is that like you said, you never know when some gas thief might get PO'd and want to put something in your tank!!!

Re: Anyone buy a locking gas cap yet?
The spouts have anti-siphon screens in them. If somone wants it bad enough they will take it. All that needs to be done is loosen the spout from the tank underneath the truck. Or you could just drill a hole into the tank.....
My personal favorite..... find a closed gas station and siphon gas out of the underground tanks.....
In Indianapolis gas is $3.19 for regular..... Bastards

Re: Anyone buy a locking gas cap yet?
Couldn't you just poke some kind of a rod down the tube to break the screen?

I tried to find a locking cap today for my 2005, which i guess has a new style non-threading cap and had to be special ordered. I'm in La Crosse, WI and currently regualr is right about $3.00 and premium is $3.45. It was acutaly in the news last week, thieves had the audacity to siphon gas from a truck parked on MAIN STREET! YIKES!

Re: Anyone buy a locking gas cap yet?
I have the GM locking gas cap on my 05.
Im glad i have it. I dont know how secure it realy is but I think if someone was trying to get in there it wouldnt be a quiet job, and then my dogs would hear it and go crazy.

Re: Anyone buy a locking gas cap yet?
I got mine @ Kragen Auto Parts. A lot of places have them. I like this one because if anyone tries to mess with it they'll have a very difficult time. The cap itself disengages and will only spin loosly when "locked". Also, you cando a google search and find a good cap on linew.

They didnt have a cap for the 05's so they sold me the 04 locking cap and it works perfectly. part number 12497880
No problems at all , no vacuum leaks or anything. It fits perfect.
Ive had it on the truck for about 3 months and 4500 miles
