GSX purchase
sup guysi currently have a 2003 eclipse GT and i think its really slow and i have had a lot of problems with this car, just needed sum thoughts and opinions, i plan on getting a GSX anywhere between 96-99, i know that the avg miles will b around 70,000-100,000 which i dont mind, now for the questions
what engine is it? 4g6...? and since that engine will have a lot of miles, whats a good engine to swap it out with? any1 have any good links for the engine? i know the stock 2.0T does 210 to the crank, with i swaped out the engine is there a better engine that fits on this car that can have more hp on the new stock engine? i do plan on adding mods and i would like to start on a new engine not on an engine with soo many miles, i want to get the car close to doing 500+bhp i actually wanted this car as a base because of its 4wd 5 speed,
whats the max hp i can get out of it on the stock 2.0l T car?
thanx for all ur help.

There would be no reason to do an engine swap...I think the max hrpswr you can obtain from a stock 4g63 engine is 450(correct me if I'm wrong). I've never heard of making it a 2.4 but a 2.2L would be obtainable(which I plan on doing at some point in time) I think a T3/T4 can reach those numbers.

Keep the same engine. You will not need to upgrade any engine internals until you start pushing 400+ hp. You will need to put a lot into the car in terms of bolt ons and supporting mods to get that far though, so don't worry about it until you get there. You should be able to get by on the stock tranny also, but be careful. You might also want to upgrade to bigger brakes once you get to that power level. If you are set on modifying the engine itself, then a stroker kit might be the thing to do.

Re: GSX purchase
There is no swap. You'll probably be getting a rebuild at 400whp.

Re: GSX purchase
Stock 4g63s have put down over 500whp, but haven't lasted long afterward. If you have big plans for the car right off the bat, you might as well build a stroker motor to spool a big turbo and handle the abuse.
Plan on a new clutch, flywheel, and all of the supporting mods from the start.
A new tranny will probably be necessary not far down the road if you take advantage of the awd with that much power.
You'd be surprised at how fast a 300-350whp awd dsm is. Running the 1320 in the 12s is faster than you probably think.

Re: GSX purchase
4g63 is like any other engines.. well all engines are the same. Treat them well and they will last. Mess with them and they will mess with your wallet. Any engine can last to 200k+ miles if u drive them right. I know some people who blew their enigne when it was a couple months old, literaly was new 04-05 lineups. Dont get a car that has mod's unless your lazy to do the mod's yourself. A stock car doesnt also mean it has mods on it b4, it also could mean that the owner put it back to stock mod. Just watch out and drive it with care.

thats the thing im not sure how well the engine would b since i am buying a used car.
now is it possible to do a twin turbo on this car or will it have to b a diff engine? cause the main reason i want the GSX is because of its AWD.

Re: GSX purchase
If you want TwinTurbo with AWD go for a Mitsubishi 3000gt VR-4. Those are fast stock. OF course they have bigger engines then dsm's do. They take more $$$ to make faster than our cars.
EDIT: whats the point to drop in another engine. Its a waste of time and all that money can make a GSX very fast.

Re: GSX purchase
When you look at the car, if it has been modified, or shows signs of having had modifications done to it, you can assume that the person who drove it beated on it a little. If you were to do anything to the engine, fuck rebuilding a 95-99 engine, go for a 6 bolt from a 90-92. Bigger rods, stronger bearings, stronger everything really. No crankwalk. Don't build a 7 bolt. Both 6 bolt and 7 bolt motors can take 400 on the stock block, but its harder to do on a seven bolt. 1g motors were rock solid. 500bhp isn't easy or cheap. And BTW, someone said a t3/4 could do 400 hp, and thats true but a t3/4 can also max out at 250. Depends entirely on the wheels, also, t3/t4's are not the only turbos that do 400hp. Pleanty of other turbos have no problem doing 400+whp.

Your getting way ahead of yourself. Start with the small things first and build your way up. Stop thinking about engine swaps and twin turbos. Read the basic mods list for a 2g turbo, and go from there.
