Unhappy ►►► Random Horn Honking when Locked

So some of you may know that I just got my shifter replaced since the key kept getting stuck in the ignition.
Now my keyless remote works...BUT when it is locked, the alarm (stock horn) goes off every hour or so. It is totally RANDOM! Sometimes it takes 2 hours...today it took one hour. It will beep 5-6 times and that is it.
What the heck is going on???

I can see it from my office window. There is no one around when it happens. Not even windy!
It seems to be on an hourly basis. I am in the office at 8:30 and it will go off at 9:30, 10:30...

I have a stock alarm in my 97 GP GT and it's been doing the same thing, only it's not as frequent as every hour. In the last three months, I've noticed it about six or seven times. I've mainly noticed it in the evening hours around 7:30 or 8:00 area. Very strange....

I wonder if it is like a maintainance thing.

...You know how the smoke alarms in your house beep if they are getting low batteries...?

Does not bother me...It is just wierd!

Did either one of you figure out what was wrong? My '98 GP is doing the same thing.

I was wondering if it had anything to do with my remote starter that utilizes the factory alarm - I just had the ignition switch replaced for electrical reasons and it started after that. It does it at the most random times....

A loud motorcycle, truck or anything that causes vibration will activate the damage detector in the stock alarm. The owners manual tells how to set the sensitivity to low so the horn will stop blowing. I had the same thing going on.

Re: ►►► Random Horn Honking when Locked

I was thinking about the sensitivity of it, but I park in the same spot every day. Sometimes a huge loud truck goes by and...nothing. Other times it will. The other day, it was going off every hour!

Same here. Mine has nothing to do with the sensitivity. There is something that is malfunctioning - i just don't know what it is!

The shock sensor for the theft deterrent is under the dash on the drivers side, (OEM Part# 10448904). Look at it and the connector and see if it is corroded, possibly due to a leak in the windshield/cowl. If the connector looks ok, you may have a theft deterrent relay going bad, causing an intermittent problem.
