Re: OMG 69 Camaro SS
we had one 5 months ago almost jump off the damn dyno. our dyno jet can handle a 1300 hp car i think thats the rating it has, well this car hit 1100 and then he sprayed for an extra 100, it jumped up and the safty gear grabed it and it looked like it went up and got slamed back down, it was the damndest thing i ever seen....and considering we had a viper that hit 1200 and it didnt do anything like that, the torq on that chevy must have been nuts!

Re: OMG 69 Camaro SS
The Torque on Big Block Chevys can be compared to absolutly nothing on this planet. These new motors produce HP at lower RPMs, like 4500 - 5500, where as the older engines produced HP at higher RPMS, like 7000.
Thats why, for example, the 396 was rated at 375, it was rated at lower rpms. In truth, it has about 500 hp, stock from the factory.
Story: My dad purchased a 1973 Nova new in 73, and he dropped in a L88 BBC. After spending almost a year calculating and designing, he had an engine that was rated at over 800 hp on just the engine. It was over 1200hp with N2O. Anyways, the cam he has in this thing (yes has, he still has the engine in the garage) wouldn't produce ANYTHING until 3500 RPMS. He said that the first time he took her to the strip and raced her, right off the line she was pretty slow. Once she hit 3500 RPMS he took off, and he would catch the other drive almost everytime. Thats when he put a 4 speed in it, and ran 10.42's.

Re: OMG 69 Camaro SS
Yeah its a convertible, white with orange stripes, 396/375hp aluminium head motor. 1 of 7 made.
Its an automatic with 3.07 gears in the back (it had to hit 200 mph to pace the 500)
6k origional miles.

Xeno, you've got to understand the roots of the old school american muscle cars like the GTO and Chevelle, etc.. they were not made for handling... those cars were straight drag racing cars and definately couldnt turn on a dime like a honda civic can.. you must first realize this.. recall, you are in the land of domestics.. where handling is not at the top of the priority list.. *you will never see a GTO in an AutoX race*

Yeah for some odd reason, people tend to usually take 68s over 67s and 69s, mostly because people dont have alot of them, I dont know. BUT one of my dream cars is a 67 Z/28 because I know there wasnt many made, somewhere under a 1000 cars.

The bad handling is a personal observation. Never said that older muscle cars were made for handling anyways.
Just saying what I know about the 'new' GTO's. They suck. Yer getting off topic. And I'd bet dollars to donuts you'll see a GTO in an AutoX race...Eventually. They already use GTO's for drifting.

Re: OMG 69 Camaro SS
It still had all the old original suspension and it was good enough (well the driver was anyway ~rolls eyes~, it was my first time out) to beat out a LT1 Z28 and a 94 Trans am and a couple BMW 5 series...I had alot of fun and it might be getting alot better soon!
