Better MPG...yes. Nice alternative...depends on how much you want to haul.

Sadly some people don't understand that most of your fuel is used up in stop and go traffic. With a smaller engine it needs to burn more fuel than it normally would if it was in a lighter vehicle. Since a bigger engine can produce more torque it will actually use less fuel to get up to the same speed in the same amount of time. However if you are always gunning it at the stop light you will always see a parallel increase in fuel usage. So in a sense it really depends on how bad you want to get up to 70mph on the highway and how much you want to tow.

Re: Mileage

07' Z85 I4 5 speed Purchased new in Nov got about 21.5. Since adding a hard Tonneau and sandbags for winter driving, Approx. 250lb. Mileage dropped to about 18-19. This is mostly rural driving with a lot of hills. Haven't tested it on a highway trip yet.

I'm getting 19 on the highway in my Silverado, and that is based on 4 months worth of MPG records.

SCtrain says that's all he's getting in his Colorado. Guess I'm stuck paying $600 a month in gas.

I would have to have the I-5 with a crew cab if I were to get one. Sounds like the MPG on those is similar to what I'm getting in my Silverado.

Re: Mileage

I've got around 800 miles on my 2007 Std Cab, 4 Cyl Automatic. I'm getting 24 on the highway and 20.5 around town...not bad at all. I just put a cover on the bed and hope that the highway mileage will still improve.

Re: Mileage

I have Colorado with 44K miles on it. Was getting 21 mpg previously in highway situation.

I just got recall for gas filler neck replacement. Took trip to Iowa from East Coast. Got 25 mpg across flat Midwestern states at 60-75 mph. Got 24 mpg through mountains of PA.

I suspect vacuum was not maintained in gas tank previously.
