99 GMC Jimmy ignition switch-HELP

Can anybody post instructions on how to replace ignition switch in steering column. Key will go in switch but will not turn in either directon.
No problem with switch in the past, suddenly will not turn and security light is flashing. Help! Thanks

is this by chance a new key, if the security light is coming on. if not does it have the chip in the key, really just a resistor i belive. take a pencil eraser and clean it, the resistor but i belive the ignition still turns when its just the resistor.
anyone else im not real familar withis system

The problem is not the ignition switch, but the ignition lock cylinder.
First thing I would do is look at your key..is it worn down a good bit?
Try a new key (like your spare)..DO NOT have another key cut to match the worn one (copy a key)..all you are doing is copying the worn key.
If that does not work then you will have to replace the lock cylinder...the new lock cylinder will have to be "coded" (new tumblers installed)..some dealers or any locksmith can do this for you.
