how do you get "Important" threads for a forum?

I work on alot of friends cars and this site has been very helpful, but so far in the Chevy Astro and Saturn forums, there wasn't an "Important" thread that listed the common problems and fixes of these cars.

So far I've learned that 80% of saturms problems come from 3 sensors, and I noticed how many times people asked a question that was related to these 3 sensors.

Same thing wiht teh Astro and most GM's they have hte same probs. It seems like the people with the real uncommon problems are getting bumped off the page by people asking hte same stuff over and over.

I think if you made a "Important" thread on this and copy pasted it in every forum, the members would be glad to make the common problems thread for their model of car, for you. And find the links to the threads where the question had been all ready answered (mostly moved into archives)

Or at least an let people know that this can be done. I think they would rather do that then answer the same questions over and over, while the real uncommon probs get bumped off the page.

Much better question

Many of the model spefic forums have stickied threads doing exactly as you describe.
Some are written by moderators, and some are written by members.

If you have knowledge to write something yourself, then feel free to do so, and PM a mod asking them to stick it for you.

With so many forums covering so many differnt models we welcome all the help we can get

I agree. I would really like to thumbtack some FAQs, common problems and fixes, list of upgrades, etc in the Ford Contour section since the same questions get asked 'ad nauseum.' I've owned a Contour for 6 years now and know the CDW-27 platform pretty well, if not the best on this site, from working on my own car and having been a member of www.contour.org (the best resource for information on this car) for 5 years. Ive seen it all when it comes to this car whether it be common problems and whats available as far as aftermarket. I pretty much just come here to help out the newbs with their questions. Ive already tried sending a PM to Igor requesting to become a Moderator but didnt get a response.

That's probably because those that ask to become moderators instantly disqualify themselves from ever becoming a moderator.

Well how else is the admin going to know who to make moderator? Pick someone with a high post count in the off topic rather than someone who knows a great deal about that specific car and makes contributing posts? How often does a moderator post or even visit a branch of a dead car, especially that of a Ford Contour. I know its not a sports car, but there are enthusiasts out there of the SVT Contour and base model Contours, including myself. I was only asking to become a moderator to benefit this site.

Re: how do you get "Important" threads for a forum?

The simple fact is we don't at the moment need any more mods, there are over 100 listed at the moment, all of them active.

But you shouldn't let not being a mod stop you from contributing helpful FAQs etc.
Infact not being a mod would make it easier, instead of cleaning up the crap you can spend more time helping people

And as I said above, if you have something you think warrents a sticky just PM a mod.
