Re: 89 Civic Trailer Hitch?

i have a tow hitch on my current 91 DX. i use it to pull my 14 foot aluminum flatboat all the time. it doesnt even strain. its all in the tongue weight, as long as most of the weight is over the axle of the object you are towing, and not on the hitch, youll be fine.

i had the same tow hitch on my 90 STD, and i pulled the same flatboat with it no problem. i also towed a CRX Si with a b16a in it, on a UHAUL tow dolly, and although i couldnt go very fast, it made a 90 mile trip without smoking the clutch. then shortly after that i put the b16a into the STD, and the STD motor went into another EF i had with no engine.

ill take pictures of the hitch tomorrow and post them up

Correct on the tongue weight. Its not on my 4g,but I have a hitch on the 99,use it to pull the bike to the beach and drag strip.I know it has a lot more hp than my 90dx hb,but It pulls/stops a 450 lb bike + 300+lb trailer fine . My tongue weight is around 65lb.

Re: 89 Civic Trailer Hitch?

I have a hitch with ball on my 89 CRX Dx. It's a U-Hau; made hitch. Bolts right up to factory frame bolts. It was put on when the car was new. I can take pics if you'd like. Never pulled more than a jet ski with it when it had the stock d15B2. Never had any problems with it. Since swapping to a DOHC ZC, I haven't towed anything and have considered removing the hitch. E-mail me at spectre574@hotmail.com if you'd like to see pics or whatever.

Re: 89 Civic Trailer Hitch?

Oh wow, nice bump as a first post! lol. I'm going to get a hitch for my CRX to tow my track bike, but I'm on a 2nd gen b16...

As far as trying to figure out how much you can haul, look in your manual. My CRX label on the car actually says I can only lug around 700 lbs or something crazy like that. But it's for a d16a6.
Or, you can think of...4 persons x 200 lbs a person...something like that. =)

Re: 89 Civic Trailer Hitch?

LOL, I never even looked at the original dates on this thread until you said something.

I don't know the stock towing capacity, I know the cars aren't meant for it, but I'm putting a B18 from a 90 Integra LS in mine and Im planning on putting a hitch on it and getting a tow dolly to haul my 93 Civic coupe and 86 CRX Si race cars, which currently the coupe weighs under 2000, don't know on the crx just yet but should be around 1700.
