Buying...... '01 or '02?
I've been test driving a 2002 Excursion limited for a few days and finally had the chance to test drive a 2001, WOW what a difference!
The 2002 seems so much more refined. Can anyone tell me what they changed in 2002 other than digital speedo, temp control, and all the gismo's on the wheel? Oh yeah I think that was the first year they put indicators in the mirrors also. It seems so much smoother and quieter. Did I just happen upon a 2001 in bad condition or where there major changes all around? |

Re: Buying...... '01 or '02?
Is the 01 a Limited also?
I've heard Excursion owners who buy new every few years say they keep getting better and better every few years. I don't think the 02's came with the signals in the mirrors however they did have the clear headlights. Some people have swapped out the mirrors so any year could have either the sport or two mirrors that could have the signals built in or some swing both ways. The 00 X Limited diesel compared to the 99 F250 XLT diesel is a night and day difference. The X is way more quieter than the truck and it's smoother on bumps. If I were you I'd look toward the diesel option, better resale and mpg and longevity.

Diesel is the only option, we knew that going into this, and coming from a F-350 with 7.3 liter.
I don't even test drive the gas ones! The '02 does have the signals in the mirrors and yes all of these are the limited versions. The '02 seems more powerful and not as loud. They must have added more soundproofing. |

Re: Buying...... '01 or '02?
I've never seen any stock 02 Excursions with the turn signals built into the mirrors. I think it was an option starting in 03. The previous owner could have swapped them out, it's easy to do I've installed tow mirrors on 3 vehicles. The previous owner could have also installed more soundproofing too and possibly put some different shocks on it and a stabilizer bar, I'd look under both rigs to see if there different from each other.
Last year when looking for a used 00 X the only ones I checked out were PSD powered. If I could have gotten a V8 or V10 version exactly like the PSD for half the price I would have passed!

Re: Buying...... '01 or '02?
just wondering was one 4x4 and the other 2wd? 2wd has an independant front suspention, the 4x4 does not. That might have been it.

Re: Buying...... '01 or '02?
01 X my back up sensers went out on my excurtion, followed by the locks, and now the cruise control what is wrong with my truck for all of the above to be going out. Also the cam senser went out yesterday for the 2nd time since I have owned the excrustion., I am think that is what is wrong as it is now sitting in my driveway. What causes these sensers to go out?

Re: Buying...... '01 or '02?
Could your alternater be going south?
I've also done to CPS's in the Excursion at 148K miles. However the F250 has had one replaced at 185K on accident and now has 203 miles.
