I just use water to clean the cut initially, maybe some salt and some citrus juice. It's virtually pain free!

You laugh at the duct tape thing but my friend's cousin got in a fight one time (He dealt in pot and the deal went wrong) and messed the guy up pretty bad on the asphalt. The guy didn't want to explain why he was all beat up so he duct taped towels all over himself for three days. Now I have to wonder how he explained that to his family.
