While the big uproar over Chevy's new not quite production engine was going on and Ford's introduction of an aero body that they could run in more that one race was playing out on the stock car stage the groundwork for another upheaval was being laid by the good folks at Chrysler.

New Plymouth star Richard Petty was quietly tweaking his new 426 wedge engine in a car that looked a lot like this GatorBuilt model. He would have to be content to sort out the chassis and other little details while getting ready to ruin Ford's day in '64 when those strange heads with valve covers that looked like refridgerator doors showed up at Daytona.
