Seized Transmission?!?!?
I was pretty sure my clutch was shot but I talked to this mechanic today and he said it sounds more like my transmission seized. He hasnt seen my car yet but hes got me freaking out a little.so Im going to give u the same description I gave him. Tell me what u think.
I have a 1990 Acura Legend 5spd manual. Right now its stuck in my driveway. I went to drive it one day and it sounded really rough in gear and I noticed a loss of engine power. It sounded bad but I figured I could drive to work (about 10 blocks round trip) and have it checked out when I got home. On the way home from work 3rd and 1st gears weren't catching and it popped out of gear 2 times. I barely made it home before it wouldnt catch any gears at all. After that when the shifter was in the neutral position and i let off the clutch it made a clicking/grinding sound and would lurch foward and stall. If the clutch is pushed in the engine runs fine and theres no clicking sound. Someone told me it might just be low on transmission fluid so I decided to see if I could get it up on my ramps and check. After about 10 attempts I got in into 1st gear, slowly let off the clutch, got about 1/2 way up and stalled. It just kept stalling after that like I was trying to start in 2nd or something and I cant get the shifter out of the 1st gear postion. My car was running fine before this, in fact I was driving it a couple hours prior to this happening and had no problems or noises. Does this sound like a seized transmission or just a clutch problem? Any feedback would be appericated. thx Zim |

Re: Seized Transmission?!?!?
How does the shifter feel, does it feel hard to move or easy to move, do the gears feel like they're in their proper positions or are they off or all messed up.

Re: Seized Transmission?!?!?
It seems like a trans problem. Clutches generally show problems and noise only when the clutch pedal is depressed, or by slipping when the pedal is released.

Re: Seized Transmission?!?!?
could be low trans fluid, start with the simple stuff first, and rule those things out and save yourself money in the process, but those guys are probably right, may have some damage to your trans.
