To original except the engine? What do you mean? A 383 is a wicked engine, I hope you're not gonna take it out...

of course I'm keeping the ole 383 I'm just doing some internal modifications to improve performance. my uncle said he could make a 383
outrun and outperform a say 440 or 454 for that matter

Your uncle is full of hair-brained ideas. As far a a 454, sure. I can make more horsepower with a small block. But a 383 Vs. a 440? B Vs RB?
Maybe he should re-think that.

Pound for pound, mods to a 440 will outperform the same mods to a 383. Except maybe for heat? A 383 would run slightly cooler, but even that's vague....

Re: new blood

383's sound good. That's about it. Might as well have a 440, the inches are there and it's an all-around evil motor. 340's are scary little motors, really mean...

Re: new blood

a 72 340 will easily hook up faster than a 383 on the street.........they torque up much faster.your car will handle much better with less weight. as far as the 440 goes they are torque monsters and hook up to the road right quick. its a powerhouse

Re: new blood

we've got a 383 in our roadrunner, and a 440 in the charger, so I got the best of both worlds baby!
