Did Chevrolet put 502 in stock?

a 502 isnt 8.1liters its more like 8.2L or 8.3L But Dodges 505ci V10 is 8.3Liters... So im guessing its 8.2Liters... ugh why did they have to go Metric??? i like saying i have a 383... when honda's have like 100 cubes.. its funny to see them realise how small their engines are.

a 496 is 8.1liters < thats whats in the new Trucks and Vans... it's what should be in the New Vettes.

What ever happened to those Big Block Vettes? I mean i know what happened... but why not have them? 8.1Liters would be nice, if the Vette team tuned it up a bit, it would make decently high HP and TQ ratings. Would give Viper something to worry about. Not that the Z06 isnt already, but we could always use more grunt!


383... thats what? 5.9Liters? cause a 400ci is 6.6 (according to my friends old 79 Trans AM) Or is the 383 over the 6Liter mark? Ugh.. once again STUPID METRIC!

I can't think of a "mass produced" V8 engine in excess of 500cid (8.2L). The large diesel engines from Navistar, Detroit Diesel, Cummins, Volvo, Mack, et al...are all six-cylinder engines. If there was a truck V8 greater than 500cid, it would have had to have been produced before the 1980s...and probably back into the 1960s or earlier.

If we're limiting this argument to "light-vehicles" as defined earlier (GVWR of under 10,000lbs), I'm going to agree with the 500cid Cadillac engine.

Again, agreeing with what has been said, the Viper engine is 8.0L (488cid) for the first generation and 8.3L (505cid) for the second. GM's big gas engine is 496cid (8.1L) and it's only been offered since 2000; prior to that, the largest V8 in a GM light truck was the 454.

no offense to the 305 fans, but the 305 isnt the best V8 built. the 305s of the mid 80s sucked balls Smog regulations kept the V8s from making serious power. but with minimal investment a 305 can make good power.

for example the infamous Chevy 350 has made oddball hp throughout the years. In 1970 they generally made 350 hp (sweet!) in 1977 they made 170hp (what the shit?), in 1986 it made 250hp (getting better).. in 1999 it generally made 280-350hp (depending on the Vehicle and its performance options) its the regulations. All you have to is let the motors breath and bam you got yourself a powerhouse.

Hold on a sec. Comparing the numbers on sixties and early seventies motors with their counterparts in the eighties isn't right unless you take into account the fact that it used to be rated in gross hp and now is rated in net. Net doesn't look as good on paper. There is about 61 cubic inches in a liter. And to throw my opinion in, I would have to say that most of the time, peak hp is overated. You have to look at the power curve. If a car has a flat curve that doesn't peak very high but is 20hp less than a curve with a steep peak, that vehicle creates more power throughout the band and will most likely be a higher performance vehicle.

i wish i had friends as smart as you. sometimes we just stand there saying 'power good!... gas price BAD!' thats pretty much the extent of our conversations... yep.
