68-72
I'm new here, but really, I don't think you could go wrong with a 68-72 Chevelle. I have a 72 SS with a '68 vintage 396, so I'm partial to the 72... But I think the 68-69s have sleeker lines, on the other hand I like the single-headlight and round tail-lights of the 71-72. I'm saying 72.

65 SS396 would be my choice. 69 Yenko would be second choice.

Painted it gloss black and put on some chrome wheels, headers... It looked sharp. The 283 was a nice running engine, you could pull high RPM. I think if I had it to do again I would look for a 327, which produced more torque and HP.

67 and 68 were totally different body styles. 66 and 67 were same style as were the 68 and 69.

Re: Favorite Chevelle?
First new car I ever ordered was a 68 SS396-375hp 4 speed, with 4.10 gears. WOW!! I put Hookers, a Hurst, 4.56 gears and an L88 cam in it, and there was very little that could outrun it. Sure wish I had kept it. Best car I ever had. Best looking tool

Re: Favorite Chevelle?
I would have to say the 66 I had one when I was in high school. 396 backed by a 4 speed. then I would go with the 70 I bought shortly after school with the 454. Wish I still had them both. Oh well the dumb things you do when you are young.

Re: Favorite Chevelle?
70 SS LS-6 454 4 speed, Hands Down. The 66-67 were sharp, but who can argue the Brute Force of the LS6. Not to mention the 70-72 cars actually could stop and turn, unlike the earilier models with 4 wheel drum brakes. My 70 Malibu 300hp-350 was a sweet car, had power everything and rode/handled like a dream. I put a spanking on a Porsche in the mountains of West Virginia one time going to visit my uncle who lives in Virginia (before I-64 was completed and you had to go through a long stretch of twisty two lane). The Porsche driver about shit when a 70 Chevelle with Michigan plates showed him the way through the mountains.

Re: Favorite Chevelle?
So many favorites. I swear I fall in love with every custom car I see. As far as the chevelle goes my favorite would have to be the 1965. Pre muscle headed madness but a staple for any custom car enthusiast (like myself)

custom cars are supposed to have bigger engines than stereos, but maybe i'm old fashioned

Re: Favorite Chevelle?
I like my '64. It's my wife's car actually, she's had it longer than she's had me.
My dad a '64 as well, first new car he ever bought.

Re: Favorite Chevelle?
As far as a stock car would go, It's gotta be the 70 SS with the LS6 454 . That has got to be the the baddest of the bad as far as muscle cars go. Now for something not quite so stock, I'd have to say the 70 Baldwin/Motion phase 3 Chevelle. They had to be one of the baddest Chevelles ever to hit the streets.
I wish they would stuffed an LS6 in the 70 Nova as well

Re: Favorite Chevelle?
I've been looking for this car for my brother for sometime now. It's kind of our dream car to get together and we could only find this one perfect pic on a deleted post from craigslist. Although I don't know as much as my brother about the car, as I wondering if you could give me a hand and tell me anything you know about this car [ year/custom parts/etc. ].
P.S. I've found other similar cars to this one but never the same one. Maybe it's just the angel, but I doubt it. Even just another pic of a car like this, or hearing it was custom [and how] would bring hope. Thank you.

Re: Favorite Chevelle?
In my personal opinion I think that the 69-70 Chevelles are the best. My dad had one that was blaze orange with black stripes but he sold it to some J@CK@$$ WHO ROLLED IT WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH OF HAVING IT!!!!
But the 70 is about what radical really is!

Re: Favorite Chevelle?
I have owned a few Chevelles over the years:68 SS,72 Heavy Chevy,65 Malibu Conv,
and my present keeper-- a 70 Malibu.
I like several of the years 68-72 being my favorites.
