dear mike,
well yes you are right that there are jetta's in the high 9's but they're called funny cars.. i took a look at your link provided, if you notice in the car there is a roll cage, and it's got massive boots, so it's so not street legal
i didn't think we were talking about funny cars, because yea obviously you can turn anything into a hotrod when going into that class, becuase it's not really the same car anymore.
I was under the impression you were saying these were street legal cars, which i know would be impossible.
so anyway lets just leve it at that, yes there are jetta's in the 9's but none that are street legal...so far the best street legal jetta i have ever heard of was in the 13's.

Re: wut to do for mass hp for a 1985 jetta with 100hp
There was a rabbit back in the seventies that would do twelves with the stock motor and no turbo. Seems like nobody really goes for this type of inch-pinching drag racing anymore. I just can't get excited about drag cars with an obvious budget surplus these days. It's like, yeah, I could go that fast too if I had his money...
And camaros are stone axes, not really interesting at all. I'd rather have a Chevelle anyway, if we're talking about domestics. OH WAIT, we're not.

and jettaboy..you keep talkin about this 600hp jetta as if it's real! stop lying to us all, this forum is for serious people that want to know the truth. lets think about it logically.. there is no way a front wheel drive car can be that fast!! bloody hell i've seen 1000hp v8's lift the front end off the ground, dig into the pavement so hard with massive boots in the rear and still not get 9 seconds. you are talking crap, admitt it! haha
what tires can a jetta fit in the front??? the widest my vr6 can get is 225's. oooo....so big!! (NOT) and once you step on it the car takes all the weight off where it needs it the most (the front end for the jetta).. thats like trying to race v8's in reverse!! the physics just don't work.. the weight transfer is all wrong.
lol...a 2.8 liter engine that puts out 590hp at the tires, thats a fools dream. let me guess..it's street legal too! haha.. if this is so true then give us all a link to a web site or some engine stats like what kind of goddies he's got hang'n off it obviously he would have to be runing straight alcohol to get numbers like that...you kids make me laugh..thanks!
Don't get me wrong though.. i am a vw supporter but not in the same way as you two.. i think the car is nice with its european design and it does have pretty good handling being a compact car, mine is lowered with fat rims and looks pretty clean... but it stops there, it's only got good enough power to shuffle around traffic and thats what i use it for.
it is a good car, but i don't recommend to deviate from it's original purpose.

Yeah Yeah, whatever... Now you are backing out trying to CYA. Dont give me that "I thought we were talking about street legal cars" bs. You knew exactly what I was talking about... You clearly stated: "lets think about it logically.. there is no way a front wheel drive car can be that fast!!" so dont try to back out now with your "ohh, its a funny car" garbage... I totally blew your ignorant comment out of the water.
You know I totally understood your argument when you first posted on this thread, in fact I used to argue for Muscle cars too, I tried to make that clear. But you didnt want to discuss the topic like a normal person would, instead you showed how close-minded you really are, and then when you got proved wrong you try to back out and CYA. I have read your other posts and It is obvious that you have no desire to give any valuable advice to other VW owners. All you seem to do is knock on others rides and preach your V8 musclecar sermon. well I'll speak for myself here and say that I am sick of hearing it. No matter how many times you give the argument that V8 is faster, it still doesnt cut it with me. we are entitled to drive what we want. If you can't handle the fact that we are going to modify our little 4 cylinders and enjoy every second of it, then stop reading Vw posts... I dont come on V8 threads and talk crap about them, so how about you do the same...
Ohh, Its too bad that the Camaro is no longer in production... I wonder why...
Mike.

those are funny cars.. there is a seperate form for those cars. notice the roll cage and slicks and the fact he is running alcohol?
if anyone else agrees with me, I'm sure this forum is about street legal cars?? I know i like to still beable to turn corners and have a back seat!
good luck with your quest to find a fast street legal jetta, I'm sure it will be a long one.
with regards to the post."what to do for mass hp in '85 jetta" well I have a chevy 350 block at home that just might squeeze into the jetta engine bay? interested?
I expect your call shortly.
regards,

Re: wut to do for mass hp for a 1985 jetta with 100hp
Smoknbarrles, a 350 might have too much torque for the little Jetta, it prolly would rip apart the chassis. I mean were talkin about droppin a V8 into a Jetta, an old jetta. No I would think long and hard before I just dropped in a whole new engine, plus he would have to do some major chopping to get the 350 to fit. But hey, it would be fun, and that would prolly be the fastest damn Jetta on his block. If your looking to pull apart your Jettas chassis heres a great engine to do it with: http://www.psiflex.com/ss/engine.htm Its another 350 that has some mods and is about 450HP.

Listen, in one of your previous posts you made it quite clear that getting 590 hp out of a 2.8 is "impossible" and you also said that it is impossible to make a FWD car run in the 9's It seems that I proved both your statements wrong... I never said that it was street legal, and I never said that it wasnt a funny car. It is still a original Vw chassis with normal body panels, so if you ask most people I think they would call it a Highly modified car. so learn to read.
Ohh, and as for me posting these cold hard facts in the wrong forum, well you shouldn't be talking because you are the one talking about V8 muscle cars in a VW forum. at least I am sticking with the same Manufacturer here. so go into a nice V8 forum where your "experience" will serve some purpose. Nobody here cares how great V8's are, because it doesn't do us any good since we are talking about Vw's.
Ohh and also about sticking a 350 ci. into a Jetta, WTF is wrong with you? are you not getting the point that nobody here cares about V8's why do you bother posting here. We are talking about Vw's in a Volkswagen forum, A V8 is not even realistic, if your are going to say something at least make it have some validity to it... So stay in your own musclecar forum, and leave us to talk about how to mod our Vw's in our VW forum.
Mike.
