Replacing stereo in 2004 Prius

I am looking to buy a 2004 Prius. First I want to know though if I can replace the stereo/radio/CD player with a standard aftermarket stereo (such as the one I have installed in my Corolla). Specifically I want MP3 support. Can anyone comment?

Thanks,
Eric

Apparently not

I rented a 2004 Prius and unfortunately, it definitely looks like the stereo is a non-standard size. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket stereo installation kit and wiring harness for the 2004?

so you want to add stuff to your Prius, eh?

The most advanced additions to the Prius that I have found are in Florida. Look at this web site: http://www.coastaletech.com/

Unfortunately, all the neat stuff (mp3 player, rear-looking tv camera) is designed for the 2000-2003 models. The company states they are adapting their stuff for the 2004 model. Of course, the warranty goes out the window, I would imagine.

I can't believe that a futuristic car like Prius doesn't have MP3 support by default.

I'm contemplating a Prius, and this is something that really bugs me.

mp3s in Prius

It bugged me, too. I bet Toyota purposefully did not include mp3 capability because of all the legal entanglements currently going on.

you can get the XM stereo from the dealership too. all you need to do is order it from them. then i dont think that will void the warranty. if you guys have questions, there are yahoo groups that can help you, but some of those people are critical and rude. www.greenhybrid.com has all kinds of hybrid owners that can help answer questions and they have an online fuel economy database where you can imput data for your own car. Try asking your questions there!
