Re: STI vs. SS Camaro video
Was this a personal race, as in you filmed it so you know the mods? Just wondering. I don't think the SS was catching up at all, I think the gap maintained itself pretty well from watching the tape. The SS shut down too early IMO, I think he just gave up because he wasn't going to pass the STI without killing themselves on the street. Hard to mess with those AWD launches...

Re: STI vs. SS Camaro video
I'll agree that launch on the STi was massive, granted you can do that but how many times? the tranny sure as hell can't support it can it? I'm not up todate on on their tranny's, just curious is all.
I know right now with the motor I have I'm pushing the damn tranny limits and I'm sure when I go through the gears leaving trails of black marks in 3rd and 4th aren't to good that's the only down fall I have with my tranny damn FWD setup moved to the back, transverse BASTARDS!

Re: STI vs. SS Camaro video
Yeah it didn't look to me like the SS was even close to catching up. Good race.

every thing i have read is that the STi's six speed is damn strong... got to worry about the WRX's 5 speed tho. i would think that STi would live quite a long time even with the hard ass launchs

Re: STI vs. SS Camaro video
Yeah you would think so. My friend messed his tranny up by launching all the time like that.

As stated above, this is slightly misinformed...
I'm installing my 4.10 rear this coming weekend. I have a 4 speed auto, and I'll still be able to hit around 150ish mph with the .7 overdrive. It won't be a very weak overdrive either, as it'll have about a 2.87 final drive...
You also might wanna consider how much more the AWD tranny eats power at high speeds in the STI. I've raced a couple of them. Not just fly by races either. We had them all set up, etc. This was before I had the nitrous, stall converter, exhaust, etc. Main mod was headers and intake at the time... He killed me off the line, but I passed him up by 95mph in every race...

The 4.10 gear will get up to 140 yeah..But not in the 1/4 mile probably just barely in 1 mile. Gear like that are more for the 1/8 mile. And 4.10 is a low gearing not a high gearing.
red hot- your putting 4.10 gears in, your final drive will be 4.10 your final gear will be 2.87

Just some performance #s from a WRX (the STIs little bro.) owner.
145 mph. Still had 1000 left on the tach. (looong straight road) (Stock!!)
1/4 mi 13.763@96.40 mph (before uppipe and retune)
I have not run it at the track since uppipe, retune, and new clutch. (got 65,000 mi out of it with some drag and alot of auto-x racing) I think my 1/4 mi time will be a little lower now.
I've raced a lot of domestic muscle. Won some lost some.
I like the fact that I still get 21 mpg no matter how I drive it.

Re: STI vs. SS Camaro video
That SS got owned, period...... I counted atleast 2 car lengths, and that's being pessimistic. after the 1/4 mile of course the SS will find it's legs and beat the STi. Looking the the vid I don't think the guy heated up his DR's properly (Which I was also guilty of w/ the Z28 i use to own). 1/4 mile wise though, that STi is gonna be hard for the SS to take.
