Fuel Sending Unit Problem

I was called by NHTSA and I was told to expect the fuel sending units on 98-99 Rodeo to be recalled by Isuzu. They said expect 6-8 weeks.

[edit]There was never a recall

Holy crap that's good news!! maybe it will be like the ABS recall, where they started with the earlier year(s) & then moved it up after some time. I don't think Zu had a choice with this one. A few major law suits from people who got hurt or killed due to the bad gas gauge issue (ran out of gas) puts even Isuzu of Japan at major risk. They did the right thing, which makes isuzu a better company than many other auto makers!

From what I could tell it looks like 98-99 model year vehicles are affected. Your best bet is to check yourself by folling the link below. If you suspect your vehicle to be part of this notify the dealer and they should be able to take a look at it for you .

Dennosmith ,

Did you recently contact the NHTSA since your truck has this problem?

The NHTSA stated that there would be a recall or a TSB?

Do you have a contact number at the NHTSA, so I can clarify this? -PM me if you would like.

I was called by Jeff Taylor @ NHTSA. He said that they are going to have Isuzu recall the sending unit. There is already a TSB out there for the fuel sending unit, but it replaces the existing one with one that will cause the same problems after 30-60K. The recall should offer a more permanent solution.

Emailing the NHTSA or calling their Hotline will get you no where. They just know what is already in the database. If you really need to call someone to have some kind of satisfaction, let me know and I'll PM his number to you.

Re: Fuel Sending Unit -- Recall in 6-8wks

rszappa1,

he isn't going to post it in the forum because he doesn't want his contacts number available for everyone. So if you want the info turn your email or PM on. I asked for it and I got a PM from him with the info.
