Question Battery change and alarm reset

I replaced my battery on my '98 Camry LE yesterday and when I went to connect the new battery the horn went off like a steady blow. I thought this was odd so I connected the battery and tried to start it. I wants to turn over yet seems like its not getting gas and the horn was still blowing. I disconnected the horn and reconnected the battery again only to hear another horn blowing from deep in the engine. Still no luck starting the car. I understand it has an anti-theft device. VIP i think its called. I tried locking and unlocking the car manually many times also tried using the remote entry to no avail. Can anyone help me get the car running again? I believe me undoing the battery tripped some sort of anti-theft alarm and now everytime I connect the battery the horn blows and the car will not start. Is there some sort of switch or button or fuse I need to clcik or pull? Do I need to do something with the key in some sort of order? PLEASE HELP!!!!

Re: Battery change and alarm reset

There is no panic button. It's the factory VIP 3000. It is a keyless entry remote which activates and deactivates the alarm. There is NO panic button or any additional switches or buttons. Thanks anyway.

Re: Battery change and alarm reset

Okay, I've had many similar things like this happen to me with my VIP system in my car. Mine even went off on my while I was driving down the road! But what you'll want to do with the alarm system is to go inside of the car while the battery is disconnected, pry the black switch panel out that has the dimmer switch, power mirrors, or whatever options you have. Disconnect all of the wires going to the panel, and move it out of the way. You have to look inside of the hole in the dash, straight up in there you will see the VIP main control, and what you'll have to do is pull this down, disconnect it completely, and let it set for a few minutes. Then you can reconnect the whole thing, put it all back together, and try to run it.
