My Opel/Vauxhall/Holden collection
I'll post here pictures of my die-cast Opel related car models.
There are couple of self built ones on the modelling forum already, 1/24 Opel Calibra and Opel Astra DTM race cars built from Tamiya kits. Here I'll post the die-cast cars. I'll start with the Holden Monaro CV8 1/18 by AutoArt: The relation to Opel in the Holden Monaro is that it is based on the Opel Omega B car, although Holden in Australia has made huge modifications to the model and it's a truly great looking car and the AutoArt 1/18 model makes justice to the car. I bought this model from Taipei, Taiwan. More to come, there are about 100 of them in my collection. |

The Monaro was something like 65 € when converted to Euros (about the same in $), I don't remember what was the price in Taiwanese currency.
Here's the next one, the Opel Speedster 1/18 by Maisto: The Opel Speedster is based on the Lotus Elise, but has a GM engine and different design. The same car is also called Vauxhall VX220 in the UK. As you notice the last picture is taken when the model was on display on a car show on the dashboard of an identical real Opel Speedster, which I also test drove. A true sports car, it was wonderful experience to drive it. The Maisto model is the better one of the 2 Opel Speedster 1/18 models available, but of course it is not perfect, but it was also quite cheap, if I remember correctly something like 25 € only, cheaper than 1/43 models. For that price it's quite accurate. More coming later. |

Opel Calibra DTM
And here's the next one:
Opel Calibra DTM V6 4x4 Team Zakspeed, driver Klaus Ludwig 1/18 by Minichamps: This model was bought this summer from Germany, Nuerburgring, where there was a DTM race. Also Klaus Ludwig was seen there testing the Mercedes SLR on the Nordschleife, unfortunately I didn't get an autograph to the model. This model was carried from Germany to Finland in an Opel Calibra and I have a real one myself too, of course the street version, with the 2.0i 16-valve turbo engine (315 HP) and four-wheel drive. This is the Minichamps 18 version, there is a model of this same car, but the 1996 later version also from UG, but it's a different model. This Minichamps version is the early 1996 version. |

Very nice cars and great pictures. That Monaro has me wondering who the first will be to make a GTO diecast?

I believe ERTL (unfortunately) will be the first to do a Monaro based GTO, but they're low quality. Hopefully Autoart will get the rights to do a proper version. I have the Monaro based Holden HSV GTS 300 Coupe in Devil Yellow by Autoart and Mark Skaife's Holden Commodore V8 Supercar, also by Autoart.
