91 Honda Accord DX Power Steering Problems
Hello to all,
Short and sweet: We need help. I recent bought a 91 Honda Accord DX for the hubby to get around for the business. However, we noticed that it was very hard for us to turn the steering wheel. So, this is what we have tried and the results: 1. Attempted to fill power steering resevoir: Already full a) noticed that the fluid will shoot back into the resevoir. 2. Noticed that pump will get hot but no activity: Replaced power steering pump Now that we have replaced the power steering pump, it is easier but only by a lil bit. We noticed that fluid is still shooting back into the resevoir. We need any help we can use! Thanks in advance guys!

you can flush the system,remove return line & place in a container.with res.full,start &
system will pump out old fluid(dont allow res. to run empty)repeat until fluid is clean bleed air when finished by turn steering lock to lock until air is out, recheck fluid level

Re: 91 Honda Accord DX Power Steering Problems
I've had some luck flushing rack and pinion systems as described, removing the return line and running while steering it back and forth (to get flush through the whole spool assembly and all) and have someone keep the reservoir full.
Use Dexron tranny fluid for flushing, because it's cheap and highly detergent, then after it begins to run clear and red from the return, chase it out with Honda-spec power steering fluid until that's all you see coming from the return...then put the line back on and top off. Sometimes you get lucky and see a bunch of black/brown solid debris puke out while flushing, and it begins to ease up and start working correctly. Good luck.
