00 Silverado Fuel Pump Stopped Working

I have a 2000 Chevy silverado 1500 that died while driving it on the highway. After towing it home we noticed that you can't hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key, which I thought would mean it was just the fuel pump or relay. We replaced the relay, that didnt fix it. However the pump has worked a couple times allowing the truck to start which makes me wonder if it is a short in the wiring somewhere or bad connection somewhere??? If you have any advice or wire diagrams that would help alot! Thanks

When pump does not run check for power and ground to it.

Gray wire is fuel pump feed wire.

Key on you should have a 2 second fuel pump prime up.

Engine cranking fuel pump shpould have 12volts to it and run.

What is the fuel pump pressure when it is runing?

To test fuel pump use a fused jumper on gray wire to fuel pump.
If it runs jumped check pressure and post back pressure readings.
If no run jumped check for good ground and wiring and plug in to pump.

If all is good and still no run or low pressure.

Time to Install a delphi fuel pump module.

If you have 180,ooomiles or more on the fuel pump this is the pumps life for most.

hitting the bottom of the tank when this occurs is a technic to get the pump running again to avoid towing to the repair area.

checking the pressures after this repair is a good idea and should be on the high end of the spec.

replacing the relay and cleaning and securing the ground wires at the frame rail fuel tank area is also recommended.

your problem is not a short but an open circuit . a short would blow fuses. the open is most times the internal pump motor .

Re: 00 Silverado Fuel Pump Stopped Working

Thank you guys for all the advice it helped alot! I checked for power from the fuse and relay they both were fine. So I dropped the tank to check the wiring to the pump then I metered out the ground and found that it was not getting a good ground due to rust. So I temporarily bypassed the ground to a different location and it worked just fine. So my problem was fixed just by taking a wire wheel to the ground location and cleaning it up.
Thanks again!

You are welcome and thanks for posting a thanks and how it went.
As in post two always check power and GROUND.

Power does no good without a good ground.

Good Luck
