Best Honda OE(M) brand of replacement parts?
I want to replace a bunch of parts on my newly purchased 1988 Honda CRX, but I want to keep it as stock as possible. I'll be replacing the water pump and timing belt (and tensioner pulley), distributor, spark plugs and wires, and stuff like that. All so I can get it on a routine maintenance schedule.
Should I get OEM Honda Parts? An OEM timing belt costs about $40. Or should I buy my parts from Rock Auto (and which brand?)? I see timing belts from $16. Is there a difference between the two? What is recommended? Thanks |

Some will argue there is no difference, while myself I know there is. I've seen too many parts store parts fail earlier than they should due to lower quality materials. Shop around online, there are a lot of Honda specific websites that offer OEM parts with a discount.
If you are in a position to do so, go OEM has my vote. |

stick with OEM stuff when it comes to tune up / timing belt stuff. There are many Honda dealers selling parts online cheap! We get 20% off list at the dealer we deal with and I can get parts cheaper online but being a bussiness we need the parts ASAP and can't wait for shipping. Check www.hondaautomotiveparts.com

When is it appropriate to buy aftermarket parts?
For instance, I'll be buying a brake light switch from Rock Auto for $8 shipped. Edit: Yes, Majestic is where I'll be ordering from. Either them or a supplier here in California (but I'm debating whether paying sales tax is worth the quick shipping ) |

Buy parts from OEM Honda. It is standard shop and you will get guaranty on all parts.
