Power Lost F350 7.3 Turbo Diesel

Maybe some one could help A friend has a 2001 F350 7.3 turbo diesel miles somewhere around 95,000 give or take. He has trouble off and on with power lost. The engine will be running fine and as he puts it bucking and kicking. The service engine light comes on and he has no power to pull. He thought he had gotton some bad fuel but after two tanks and three filters kinda ruling that out. He can drain the fuel filter and it will run fine but for how long who knows. He has went thru the wiring harrnes as far as the fuel injectors go and have fix that. (from where they would work themself loose) He has run fuel additives thru it also with no luck. Any help would be a big help. One thought could it be the fuel pressure regulator. At a $195 realy don't want to play guessing games

Thanks
Leonard

Re: Power Lost F350 7.3 Turbo Diesel

Had a 97. Check the wires going to the injection pressure regulator. Any fuel splash up by the filter will turn the insulation to mush and the wires short causing aforementioned syptoms, can be a no run or start too. If you look down where the filter is there is a two wire connector going to it. It is just below and to the drivers side of the filter. It is two piece the solenoid and the valve. The connector is on the solenoid. That is my first guess. Second would be the injection pressure sensor which is in the oil rail on the drivers side head. It should be throwing a code that could be read though. The other might not...

Screens in the sending unit in the tank. or EBP or fuel pump, no ipr or icp or injector problems if no skip is present.

Re: Power Lost F350 7.3 Turbo Diesel

Any updates? Saw his light was coming on, didn't read close enough last time. Being a 2001 it can show him codes. Does the light go off when he shuts it off. If he is loosing power and setting a p1211, that is icp pressure low, which starts another bag of worms. Let us know if you have any updates.

He has codes just can't get a hold of him. The codes only come on when the trouble starts and goes off when it stops. No black smoke coming out will let let you know as soon as he calls back. Thanks Leonard
