Erratic Tach 91 Accord EX
Just had to replace my main relay and the distributor on a 91 EX w/ 187K miles and after replacing these parts the Tach started going squirly anywhere above 3200rpms. Any idea what could be causing this? Threw new plug wires in hoping for a cheap cure, still got the problem. The car does not seem to hesitate, just the tach. Only one thread suggested a new alternator but I hate to just keep throwing parts at it. Battery light is not on.

Re: Erratic Tach 91 Accord EX
It might be your VSS.
If your cruiz control works, than it is OK and problem might be with dash's circuit board. Sam

Re: Erratic Tach 91 Accord EX
VSS was replaced about a month ago. Caused speedo to go HAYWIRE and yes made cruise inoperable. I'm leaning tward bad distributor (or at least igniter/tach pick up part of it) out of the box from Advance Auto. Will post resolution.

Re: Erratic Tach 91 Accord EX
It was a bad distributor right out of the box from Advance Auto. 3rd electrical part in the last year that was bad right out of the box from them new. Last part was O2 sens and caused hell to diagnose because I did not think it would be bad new.

some of those non-Honda parts like the O2 sensor are not 100% compatible and will cause the ECU to spit out all kinds of error codes.
