VTEC is not good for any racing platform.
If you're racing you don't want your car shifting low/high energy cam profiles. You want high energy all the time.
It is a great system, but it's not designed for racing.
I think the S2000 has VTEC. ??
I know the NSX can have it.
Now if Honda built a VTEC system that was for low/high RPM rather than torque, that would be cool. You could rev to 14k without loosing torque!
I'd take that for racing...

Yeah VTEC changes cam profiles at a certain RPM. But since the RPM is increasing anyway, the power would be also (P=FV).
The Power Profiled cam generates additional torque, at the higher RPM.
So yes it does produce more power, but only because the torque is increased.

What confuses me is why would any sane 16yr old kid would want to try and make a civic into some sort of race car? I use the civic as an example because they're most common in my area. Personally I think most japanese cars look nice, STOCK!. Body kits, oversized spoilers, and huge buzzing exhaust cans totally ruin the nice look of the cars, FOR WHAT?! Not only the cars annoy me, the punk drivers who think a VTEC is something to be proud of. I'd would give a guy more respect if he didn't have it painted like it hit a
baskin robbins stand and have some kinda of indy car spoiler on it , and a chinese resturant menu with dragons on the side. As I said, im a classic car kinda guy, thats why i own a 67 El camino. This is obviously not a daily driver so that also why I drive a 89 honda accord 4 door, its definately no hot rod but its reliable, and gets around just fine. I have no problem with japanese cars when they're done up right.

why does everyone fight about cars, they're cars, i mean im more passionate about cars than anybody in my school, but arguing about them like this is stupid, all the time i hear people either thrashing imports or domestics, its stupid, even though back when i was younger i thrashed on domestics, but i didn't entirely understand that its not what your car is, its about what you do in your car, and about having fun, i will agree that american cars can be fast, but imports are just as fast as the domestics, and the american drivers that freak out everytime they see a honda or a mazda or nissan and go yell at the guy, will just have to admit that they can race just as good and sometimes better than their domestic cars, i prefure imports over domestic, for reasons like easier and cheaper to modify, but just because i think a mazda is cool, doesn't mean that i don't respect the american cars, and their drivers.
i think its just plain idiotic if you guys argue about such a stupid thing, american cars will always be here, and so will imports, but the one thing that is so stupid, is that someone will say something like, "your import sux", its not like thats going to change my opinion on the car, im still going to like imports, so just get along and stop this stupid, pointless fight.
O and that cavalier made bye toyota? you've gotta send me pics, i wanna see it

Re: the rice burner anthem
i prett much exclusively like imports (bt not the front wheel drive ones). and i think the only american stuf i like would be like the dodge turbo shelby's from the 80's or gt-40 or fiero ( with a 350 in teh back) back on subject. jsut cause its making fun of what you liek doesnt mean its not hilarious. people (ricers) do some stupid shit to their cars and almost none of it makes them go any faster

i wasn't saying it wasn't funny, but someone earlier in the thread said something about imports and it started a fight and it all unfolded from there. i know there's a difference between ricers, and people who race imports, but someone earlier didn't see that.

Re: the rice burner anthem
If you guys knew anything about honda motors, then you would know that in the mid to late-nineties, honda had a pattent on the v-tech type system. Now that it ran out, most other jap companies have the same type of system. Ever heard of toyota's vvti? Same shit. Good cars come from all over the world, it depends on how much you can afford. A stock used 3,000 dollar japanese car will suck, but so will any domestic car for that price. Hence why many younger drivers have civics and older crappy domestics. Everyone can say "honda sucks" or "a chevy is a piece of shit," but it's not fair to tell someone who can't afford a nice car that their car sucks ass, because no matter what you drive, there's ALWAYS something better then what you drive. Unless you own a Bentley.

Re: the rice burner anthem
Anyone who can say "Imports Suck" or "Domestics suck" arent car lovers to me. I love CARS, fast cars, sports cars, muscle cars, exotic cars, CARS. You cant judge cars based on country.
You cant say Japanese cars are better than American cars because the Ford Taurus is slow and the NSX is fast. Or the Pushrod is great and VTEC is for Torqueless engines.
If you're going to compare cars, compare them on a car by car comparison. (Acceleration, Cornering, Top Speed, Looks, Gas Economy, Practicality, Luxuries)
By the way, VTEC isnt a performance measure.
Boost > VTEC
Displacement > VTEC
Nitrious > VTEC
And the Civic is not a sports car, its not a performance car, its an econobox made for grocery getting and A-to-B driving.
