Exclamation Cayman Interseries | modern racers with historic liveries

Hello everybody,

you may have never heard of a racing series called "Cayman Interseries" before. Actually, we stumbled upon it by chance.
The Cayman Interseries is a racing series in which several Porsche Cayman,
clad in historic Porsche racing liveries, race on various tracks in the USA.

We (initially a bunch of German and Swiss modelers) decided to build a fleet of these racecars in 1:24 scale, the finish line will be
the Frankfurt model show in November 2010. Here is the current list of Cayman WIPs:
  • Coca Cola | Peebo (Peer)
  • Gulf | Snake
  • Brumos | voyageur (Seb)
  • Martini | dpbeetle (Dirk)
  • Dunlop / Shell | sportracer02 (Micha)
  • Jägermeister | mikezibit (Mike)
  • "917 Salzburg" | Albandy (Andreas)
  • TAG Heuer | FraFi (Frank)
  • Rothmans | Rolf
  • red / yellow #2 | gionc (Gio)
  • Pink Pig | Klutz_100 (Stevenski)
  • Löwenbräu | RobiJ (Roberto)
  • Leyton House | 88Porsche944 (Trevor)
  • Miller's High Life | swissmodeler (Rolf)
  • The blue Hippie | jaykay640 (Joachim)

We decided to use the Fujimi Cayman as the base model kit. Mike from ScaleProduction made up some
parts we need for the racecars
. A limited production run of these parts is available for everybody, so you too can build
your favourite racing Cayman. Decals will need to be custom made or adopted from other model kits.

TK includes:
  • PE brakes
  • PE wing supports
  • PE wing end plates
  • PE tow hooks
  • Resin front spoiler
  • Resin rear spoiler
  • Resin US rear bumper
  • Clear rear window w/o heating wires
  • Wheels (sold separately!)

Check back frequently to see the development of all the cars in this thread (there will be no individual threads).

Have fun! We certainly do

If we inspired you and you want to join this group build, you're welcome. Please PM sportracer02, mikezibit or voyageur
and tell them which livery you want to build. Sorry, but there will be no more than one build of each livery
in this group build to ensure that we get a broad line-up to the show in November. We'd love to see more pop up here
(and brought to the show in November! We will provide a display base... so you don't have to worry about that!

DISCLAIMER: all pictures used by the participating modelers are either with kind permission of Pixx by Tango or the individual owners / drivers of the cars.

Re: Cayman Interseries | German and Swiss modelers building Cayman racecars

Allright, here we go. I'm first off the starting grid, hehe.

I'll be building the BRUMOS Cayman.

Since it it white I opted for the yellow Fujimi Cayman instead of the red one I already had,
because I wanted to make sure that there will be no bleed-through in the future, turning
my white BRUMOS racer in a pink one.

Testfitted the front spoiler...

... and glued the air vents and rear spoiler in place.

A first layer of primer revealed the areas to be sanded...

I also added the slot for the tow hook

That's it so far. Yes... we do know that the Cayman Interseries Caymans are facelift models - but we agreed not to bother with updating the Fujimi kit.

Cool stuff :-)

I'm not much of a Cayman fan but this goes to show just how many cool liveries were on Porsches. The 70's rocked but it kinda went slowly downhill from there :-(

BRUMOS Cayman update:

The body has been primed and shot with a coat of gloss white. Next will be decals and clearcoat...

Hmm. I'm lookin' in the rearview mirror - but I don't see the others yet

Fantastic, motivating idea. I'm not a Cayman fan also but the idea is quite cool, strange to see a whole different design in battle suit! Some of them are superb, like the Donohue 917/30 livery or the Psych. couple.

Sebastian: you got a PM

Re: Cayman Interseries | German and Swiss modelers building Cayman racecars

wow! too cool idea of a Cayman contest.
saw these cars (strictly street versions, with slick tyres and harder suspension ) in Monza racetrack, and honestly they were all VERY VERY fast.

If I had time I would like to be part of the contest...but with my own version (of course striclty German also this).

The cayman used by Jurgen Alzen for the adac 24hours.

That car and her bigger sister ("the Beast" , u all surely remember her) are surely one of my next challenges...

Too cool idea, really!

isnt she lovely?
