'89 Camaro RS MAF sensor problem...

Hi all!
I have owned my '89 RS for going on 7 years now...I have done nearly all work on this car myself since mid 2003...
Here is the issue: In the last 5.5 years, I have replaced the MAF sensor twice (purchased from 2 different venders) and I replaced the MAF sensor relay the second time even though it wasn't bad. Now the sensor has gone out again... My car hasn't actually thrown the code, but I have experienced this problem enough times to know what the problem is. The last time I replaced the sensor was about 2.5 years ago...
It seems to me that this sensor should not be going out this often, but that is the reason for this thread...
Has anyone seen or experience this issue of cronic MAF sensor death?
I will be replacing the sensor again in a few days, but if anyone has any idea what could be causing this sensor to die, then I would love to hear it.

Thanks all
Jon
