Cool Re: '92 Geo Tracker Won't start

this is a very common problem with trackers... try replacing the plugs, wires, distributor cap and button and possibly the ignition coil. all fairly cheap (compaired to a garage) and really easy to do... I suggest also picking up a book on the trackers too($15 or so).

alot of trackers get water under the hood and into the ignition system (usually the distributor cap) which will cause them to fail on ignition.

You might also check your fuses, both my girlfriend and I have 94 trackers and they have a fuse box by the batter that has 4 fuses that just love to keep blowing on us. one is the main fuse and the others are for the more important things (unlike the general fuses under the driver side dash). usually its the yellow 60amp fuse that blows, which is the one closest to the battery.

good luck!

Gregg

Re: '92 Geo Tracker Won't start

It won't start but will it run? Sounds stupid but try this. Pour some gas in the throddle body and see if it starts. If it starts up and runs ok after a few seconds.( they spit and sputter) then the starting circut on your ecm is bad. When you crank your engine on the starter gas is not being spraied from the injector in the top of the throddle body. When you stop using the starter the ECM switches to the run circut and the injector sprays gas. I had one like this we poured gas in it for two months and drove it around just fine. On ebay is a guy who repairs ECM for about $65.oo. with a week turnaround.

Re: '92 Geo Tracker Won't start

Get your ECM fixed. As stated above the Mitsubishi computers in the 90 to 95 Trackers was built with substandard parts and will burn up at about 45K miles. The other common problem with the 92 is the O2 sensor. This frequently shows up as a constantly blowing IGN fuse (on the brown fuse block next to the steering wheel). You can replace the O2 sensor or just unplug it if you don't mind the Check Engine Light glowing in your face.
