Unhappy ac blowing fuses

Have a 99 dodge ram, ac just quit working, checked fuses, 10 amp fuse keeps blowing when I turn the ac on, only when truck is running. I unhooked the wires going to the compressor and the fuse is ok, put fuse in and it blows. I see there are numerous ac questions, I've tried looking thru all of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

I'm guessing compressor is shot ???? I tried recharging the system, no luck, just keeps blowing the 10 amp fuse, and yes, i tried a bigger fuse. Thankssss Keith

Re: ac blowing fuses

I have the same problem. A/C was working and then about 2 weeks ago it began slipping the (a/c clutch) but it was blowing cold air until you gas the motor and then it goes HOT. Replaced the whole unit not touching anything but the compressor and the accumulator, vac'ed the system and plugged the high and low pressure and compressor back in and no wit keeps blowing fuses the 30 amp under in the hood. Weird thing is that the relay for the horn, tranny and a/c clutch are tied together. Seems to be a short I think. Please help.

Re: ac blowing fuses

fixed the same problem short in the a/c clutch. if you check it with a meter it'll show you have resistance. next thing to check for sure, turn the clutch compressor(the center of the compressor), it it moves it bad if not its still good. only problem is that the horn, tranny and a/c clutch are tied together....sucks huh..........Haynes Manual has good example.
