1998 Frontier misfire--please help
I have a 98 Frontier 2.4L. It has a code P0302 for misfire on cylinder 2. I've changed the plugs, cap, rotar and wires. It only misses under a light load when driving. If you put full throttle it doesn't miss and at idle it doesn't miss. It only misses when starting out or when maintaining your speed, but as soon as you put on more throttle it doesn't miss. I was thinking that it could be an injector problem. I switched 2 of the injectors to see if the misfire went to a different cylinder and it didn't. PLease someone help.....

will give you all the info I have............
I had the same problem and finaly took it the the dealer.
They replaced the injector, and the EGR valve because it was stuck open with carbon build up. They replaced the injector because it was "suspect" but I think it was the EGR causing it all and they just mis-diagnosed it and made me pay for it!!!!!!!!!! however, I got a new intake manifold gasket and labor out of the deal for free 'cause they mis diagnosed it as that first and replaced it with no change in the way it ran. Hope this helps! |

take carb cleaner and spray it where the head and intake meet the intake gaskets leak

I find it strange that it doesn't miss when the engine is cold. It only misses on cylinder 2 after the engine has warmed up. I've already checked the vacuum lines and they're fine too. |

Re: 1998 Frontier misfire--please help
I have a cyl 2 misfire on my 98 frontier 4x4 also. I have only about 75 psi of compression in cyl 2 and 140 on the other 3. The local shop wants to rebuild the head and do a valve job.
What is your compression and have you found anything else out about your cyl 2 misfire? |
