I never thought they were weak, but I suppose I've been mislead by the local shops about how much boost is safe. I think it would be very informative if you would make your own post about your experiences on boost levels according to the different engine types. Thanks for your info. You've helped me a lot. If more posters would do as you have (constructive criticism), much more information would be absorbed. Thanks again.

With the D-series motors, you can make around 230-250hp with the stock internals. Once you reach that range, the stock rods, and the cylinder sleeves become an issue. If you have a good fuel and ignition setup, and your a:f ratio is properly dialed in, then you can make those 14.7psi quarter mile blasts, but I wouldn't recommend doing any kind of prolonged boost at that level. I blew my SOHC motor doing 145mph on 11psi or 12psi, for a few miles...lol. I spun a rod bearing. You can make 13 second passes on D-series motors with stock internals.
As for the B18B...great motor. Now, the B18B has the low compression which allows for a larger window of error when tuning...which is why a lot of daily drivers like it. It is a very strong motor, and with fuel and ignition upgrades, along with great tuning, I have seen people making 380hp @ 20psi. Check out my website, www.matt3t4.20m.com and go to the Specnicalities link. You will see a huge page that I made regarding turbocharging Hondas. The key to making a good, powerful, reliable Honda motor is tuning. You need ample fuel and ignition, and you make them work together with the tuning. Once you get your air:fuel ratio correct, and the motor dialed in, your have properly tuned your car, and the only thing you have to worry about is prolonged boost. By that, I mean...don't get on 20psi, and do a 10 minute freeway race. Get on 15psi, smoke the Porsche, and then go back to your normal, unassuming 9psi...and laugh at the guy in the $120,000 car that just got reamed by a Civic...of all things... |

Thanks for the info Mat...I havent directly heard that the b18b series was good for boosting, but from what I have researched I figured it was due to the low CR and strokeXbore. I will probobly give you a shout when I get ready to build it.
I am putting my ignition on this weekend...all MSD. Exhaust and fuel are next. Thanks dude.... |

Ummm, I don't really know any sites with detailed instructions man, sorry. I have looked before also, but they're hard to come by. Visit www.hondalife.com and check out my turbo forum there (I moderate on that site)...there might be some information in there, and if not, I am sure someone there has it...
