DBR9 Slotcar....... not just another one! (lots of pics)

At long last!!!
Got the curbside kit by Rennaisance, and with the help and advice of Michael Graber of Automobile Miniaturen and Etienne of Rennaisance I managed to get the body of this fine Racer together. There has been lots of criticism regarding this kit. Alll i can say is that i am highly impressed by Etiennes work, and even after seeing the Spark version, i went and bought 2 more Rennaisance kits. Here one has the chance to create, the >Spark car is nice, but a modeller wants to be involved in the building process......
Colour used- Aston Martin Racing Green Metallic, also usable is Middlessex Green Metallic (is a bit lighter) the Metallic paint is really hard to photograph.
Decals and Photo etch parts -(loads of 'em) are supplied in the not inexpensive kit.
Weight-the kit weighs in at about 300 gramms ..... my trusty old mate, Mr. dremel took care of buisiness and cut the
body weight down to a mere 30gramms before paint and decals.
Dashboard was also Dremelled out and now weighs 2 gramms
Interior is scratch built out of clear plastic sheet foam and aluminium tape because of the weight which should total 185gramms for the racer
Chassis -will be home made Brass carbon fiber and Plafit s24 parts
Motor -Plafit Bison,
Wheels -Sakatsu OZ style (painted light gun metal) they have a spoke too much but will allow me to install disc brakes and rotors , a task which is impossible using normal slotcar wheels.

Check out my album
hope you like it
FOLA

My interior is still not finished and is a real pain to build. The worse
thing is that loads of the stuff in it will be invisible!!

Re: DBR9 Slotcar....... not just another one!

FINISHED-FINITO-FERTIG-FINÍ-GOTOVO (?) !!!!!!!!!!almost

yes!! its a done deal (- almost. the rear diffusor, brake discs are still missing)

finished the DBR 9 , man it was a real challenge to build a slot racer with this kit and I am pretty happy with the way it turned out and the final results. The rear spoiler is made out of a clear plastic tomato pakaging, and the stands
are the original photo etch parts covered with the glue with which they are fixed to the car (Pattex extreme, it dries into clear rubber)
and the spoiler itself. I used Pattex extreme repair as it is pretty thick and dries transparent.
Hope it is strong enough!. The mirrors were mounted on 1mm springs so that the look is real
but they are also flexible and will not break as soon as you touch them.... all in all its a cool
car, it runs real smooth the body with cockpit weighs 53g and the chassis 135g. On the heavy side
but looks good! Wanted to add lights and brake discs but dont want to add more weight.... any tips?

Re: DBR9 Slotcar....... not just another one!

Finished thre car but decided to add a bit more detail - PE Discs and Caliprers....
I used Discs from Scaleproduction in combination with the Rennaisance PE
parts and Resin Calipers Detailed the Sakatsu wheels with the kit decals
........ WOW, I think they look really good

And then off to race in Munich.
20 Concours points!!
The crowd was good and the starter feild fierce, the cars looked great
and my DBR 9 scored pole position on its first roll out.

Then disaster struck!! I ran into a car that was "Parked" on my lane and
the driver did not give warning! The whole front was smashed bits of
Resin flew all over the track .... and I was as mad as hell..... but then - Shit
happens. I picked up the parts that i could find and that were big enough to
use, glued the spoiler and the front bumper back on and went on to
win the race, The DBR ran like a mad bat outta hell!

The very same night back home i set out to fix the damage a good as I could
and by sunday night, I had finshed and had the car looking almost as good as
it was but stronger in the fragile areas. Where and when is the next race??
I will surely build a second car hope to find other liveries.... kinda like the
redbull version, the Cirtek verson is cool, with the union jack on the roof
.... need to find decals..

I enjoyed reading your story.
It's fun/interesting seeing a static kit transformed into something you can actually drive with.

You did a great job on the repair.
It looks good.

Great work and great racing too. Sad to hear about the mishap on track, but you did a stellar repair job. I was happy to read that the AM was a good racer.

Hey, you created a realisitic weathering representation of what happens when a DBR9 hits something on the track. I like it. Nice work.

As awesome as the original build is (which is way super awesome), I'm more impressed by the repair job! Can't even tell it haappened. You should get some tape an tape up the front, like they do on cracked up 1:1 race cars. Great work! Can't wait to see more from you.

Great build and as others have said, I take my hat off to you for having the guts to race it.

Has it had flying lessons like the one at Mid-Ohio Raceway last week?

Re: DBR9 Slotcar....... not just another one!

Nice DBR-9, great work in converting it into a slotcar. Sorry to her about the crash, really thought it was finished. Great repair also like some said before. Do you know which make the Corvette C6-r are, which are in the racing picture? Maby I can convert it into a cerbsidemodel If no other company like Revell make a 1/24 model of it.
