Civic starter cuts out--is there another relay?
Alright, I have had this problem for a few years now, it is getting on my nerves...
I swapped a B16 into my Civic a long time ago. Sometimes the starter just wouldn't come on, so I would always park on a hill and push start it Then I replaced the main relay, the battery, the starter and then even rewired the starter directly off of the battery and installed a starter button, all on an independent circuit (I can turn the starter over without a key now, so it is fully independent). I haven't had the no-start problem, but since then the starter will turn it half over, sometimes sounding a little weak, stop, kick in again, stop, kick in again and then usually start, then grind the starter as it disengages and the engine starts. Each time I hear a click when the starter starts and stops, like a relay kicking on and off. My thought is that I missed something here...is there an overload cut-off circuit? I am running a small switch wire straight from the battery to the starter, and also a heavy wire directly from the battery to the starter, so no interrupt on the positive end, it must be the ground??? Makes no sense. I would replace the main relay again, but those are expensive, and I am doubtful that the main relay is the problem (see above). Any thoughts?

I have no clear idea of what your problem is but still want this thread to be going so you can get some help.
Is the starter original. It might be just a bad starter. Good luck, Sam

Re: Civic starter cuts out--is there another relay?
The starter was original, then I replaced it but with no improvement. I have a warranty on the part, so I could replace it again...but I'm thinking it might be something I do not know about not knowing about. If no ideas arise I could replace the starter and main relay again, but that didn't fix the problem in the first place. There is always a small chance that the new part has the same problem as the old parts, but that would be unusual...

Re: Civic starter cuts out--is there another relay?
Sorry, replaced with an Autozone part, never as good as original, but with a lifetime warranty. The original was JDM with the motor...
