Truth be told however, 99% of the people administering the smog test in states OTHER than Cali either:
A) Dont have a fucking clue as to WHAT engine comes with the car

or

B) Don't give two shits...
Wait.......you're tellig me any modification is illegal.......but what's with the 50 state legal exhausts, turbos, etc........and what about DOT approved altezza's?..........if you're telling me they're illegal, then how can these parts be sold?.......maybe i'm not understanding the finer details........but can u explain?

Yes, Cali knows their stuff, but so do a lot of the mechanics here

And as far as why most people don't get swaps done, I'd tend to think it was more of a money issue because it's not that hard getting them smoggable and 'legal'.

some states are trying to make it so you have to have everything stock on your car but it will never happen becuase theres to much money flow out there in aftermarket and the Gov will not like it if that Extra Tax money stops coming in

why spend the extra money on the exhuast if yours works fine same for intake.... thats 400-600 bucks that could have been taxed but still people like gore are still trying to fight for clean air even tho half the time a free flowing intake/exhuast help smog out since the engine works less to run right

also about JDM engines its all about US SMog laws US engines were made to fit US specs and JDM engines were made to fit JDM specs thats why if you ever want to import a Skyline they have to charge you out the muffler to add stuff to it to make it smog legal

even if JDM engines come with smog things intake its still not made for the US market so there for la la la la la gov crap la la la more gov crap
thats why you can't have them

also its yet another thing that takes from there pockets think of how much money a rebuild or replacment US engine is vs a JDM engine

the prices I've seen up to 3 times as much for a engine that has 100-150 MORE MILES!

thats all the more money that will be spent into this countrys taxes

lucky for us the goverment does not need to know what we do under our hoods =)

Those 50 state legal and DOT stickers really don't mean shit. Sure. they pass pollutions inspections, and noise levels, etc...... but it still doesn't mean that it conforms with your states vehicle code.

hey i have a ZC and i dont think that there is any way that i could pass any kind of emissions test.. so i think that all JDM motors are the same... that is why Japs get rid of them after 50,000 miles too though...

i dont' get it.......why would they advertise that it's 50 state legal then?.....wouldn't that be like false advertisement or something........if it doesn't conform with certain states, then shouldn't they call it 47 state legal or something?........

alright so lets synthesize our info ABOUT THE ENGINE.

you get JDM swap and take to a smog ref, he scopes it out and makes sure it is all done correctly then you get a new vin and your engine gets tested as the engien specs and not those of what you previously had.

you go home happy and with lot of power and the smog ref goes homw with a cool 40 in his pocket

Better in which way?? It all depends on what YOU want and what your goals are for what you're doing. I don't really see there being that much of a difference in them to spend a great difference in money, but I just like telling people, Yeah, I have a JDM engine Just kinda sounds better.
