Stupid Amp. Can anyone help me out?

The POS keeps going into safe mode whenever I turn up the volume on the head unit. What's the deal? It's a 600 watt Boss. Don't laugh. Please.

Check the load impedance.

Do you have it bridged?

Its either impendance or a short, check all your wires.

An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.

Re: Stupid Amp. Can anyone help me out?

I think if your amp had a shortened circuit it would go into protection immediately once it's energized, (if it has short protection).
Are there any labeled indicating lights that cut on when you're having your problem...??

Re: Stupid Amp. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks for the responses. It's a 2 channel amp so I have it bridged. I only have one Kicker right now. The green light on the side of the amp goes off and a red one by it comes on. It's the light that indicates it is in protection mode. I have to shut the HU off then turn it back on in order to get the amp to turn back on. I've checked the ground and it's good. What about the impedence?

Re: Stupid Amp. Can anyone help me out?

What model amp and sub i need exact models. If the amp is only 4 ohm stable bridged and your running 2 ohm then your impendance is to low. Or your amp could have a problem internally. Did you check the wires to the sub in the box you could be shorting out when the sub hits.

One other thing my friend had a pioneer amp and sub in his truck, he had the same problem i spent an hour looking at wires, pulled the sub out of the box, everything i could think of. Well the amp would only stay on when the volume was low. Well his sub was blown and the voice coil ws starting to come unwound, so it was shorting at higher volume. Listen for any scratching sounds, or push and listen for them the sub could be blown.

Re: Stupid Amp. Can anyone help me out?

Im having the same problem! Whenever I turn up the volume to a certian point on the head unit, the subs just stop. I turn it down a little bit, they come back on. It pisses me off because it is brand new. I don't know what "gain" is or does and there is one other one im not sure of (I at least know what bass boost does). Im thinking adjusting those will fix my problem but i dont know what to set them at. if it helps i have two 12" pioneer subs( I think 600 max each) and a pioneer 800 watt mono amp.

Re: Stupid Amp. Can anyone help me out?

The other day I had a problem similar but after changing ideas I realized what was wrong. Here is what I was doing...gf's car...Sony Xplod 4 channel amp and another amp for sub. Power is going through distribution block. Sony amp has enough power old sub amp gets power...new amp gets power then cuts out...problem the fuse at the block was rated too low. Thus not letting enough power go to the amp to make power for the sub.

Yes generally if the power is to much for the fuse or it shorts you burn the fuse.

Re: Stupid Amp. Can anyone help me out?

Well, hmm...I guess my problem wasn't solved. I thought the fuse on the block was only allowing the rated power to go through. Hopefully someone can help me.
