Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions

I have to throw in the late 80s and early 90s Turbo Mopars. They are inexpensive, easy to find parts for, reliable, cheap to make really fast, and they are cake to work on. I guess I can't say they are the best though because of a lack of aftermarket support.

Integra type-R. Not easy to find a sub 200whp fwd car that can keep up with a corvette around nordschleife

im gonna have to say a VW 1.8t engine, I say engine cause there are abunch of cars that use it, and it is a very tunable and very strong motor.

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions

I'd say any Honda/Acura.

They may not be the fastest, but off the bat they are reliable and fun to drive. You can get almost any engine to fit into almost any of their cars with enough know how, mix and match transmisions. Different heads on different blocks. The aftermarket is big enough that you can build almost any one of their engines into something.

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions

I gotta say an srt4 but not just because I own one. I actually played the field before I decided on one. What got me to choose the srt4 was price and the fact that you can get soooooo much serious power out of their 4banger without spending hardly anything. Parts and info are everywhere. Longevity was an issue so I went asking every auto repair person I could find to ask. They all said that regular Neons were some of the most reliable vehicles on the road. What get's them a bad rap is that most Neons are bought by parents and given to snot nosed kids who barely know how to start the darn thing let alone perform or make sure proper maintenance is done. I've put 35k miles on my ride so far and haven't had any issues yet.

Mazdaspeed 3 > Srt-4 > Eclipse Turbo > Integra type-R

so in your educated opinion, is the integra type-r is the worst of the lot or worst for tuning?

So in your arrogant preception (As usual) seeing as you tune cars all the time you would know right? We don't have DC2's here in the states

Given that the mazdaspeed is new it will have less options to mods as well as more $ however...

The GSX will be in the garage more then it will be out on the road any DSM guy will tell you that, not a DD imo...

The SRT-4's are fun but hard to modify given the whole firewall thing (even though i'm sure most people have gotten past that by now) other wise you have to stick to factory srt mods which are $$$$. However dodges don't breakdown seeing how a couple of my friends have do the stage III package (333hp or something along those lines) and never had issues with boosting and what not.

Speed out of the box the speed 3 is the fastest however the most expensive as well.

Imo ~ Don't shoot for a cobalt S.S as we say on the street girls suck harder then that charger... (Lmao @ 2 psi)

You might want to look at the yaris after all drunken can tell you all about they're potential and street cred

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions

Another thing is sticking to a model and just moving up in a sense...

You could look at a 3000GT SL, have some fun with it and eventually move up to a VR4 when your ready. As black scorpion said another good all around car is the celica. There good looking and tons of mods out on the market + they also come in all wheel drive if need be.

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions

am I supposed to be offended?

you still haven't really answered my question.
according to your previous post you placed the intergra type-r last of the four.
did you mean it was the worst car or the worst for tuning?

I asked because I was wondering why you would say that for tuning, a car that has been around for donkeys' years with loads of aftermarket tuning parts such as the Integra (type-r or not) would be worse than a next to brand new to the market Mazdaspeed3. That is if you were talking about the integra being worst for tuning.
If you were talking about the integra type-r simply being the worst, then again, I'd like to know why.

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions

It's the lowest stock performance... (Thats how I answered his question)

The ITR has been around for ages but todays cars are getting alot better in terms of all around. I'd rather wait a year for a new cars performance mods then settle.
If you intend on commenting about why I bout my Rx7 it's simple, it's still one of the top import performers of all time + it's a legend in it's own right.

My theory on cars...

Simple A performance, B performance cars and C performance cars. It's alot harder to make a C up to an A class then a B class to an A class. In other words a lower performance car is harder to work to a higher performance then a medium class performer. There are exceptions I know...

Also as far as the ITR goes what type of tuning are you talking about? Drag, AutoX, Circut, Freelance, touge, Topend (wangan style)?

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions

why is it that when there's a poll like this it becomes such a pissing match?

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions

pissing match?
the thread starter asked for opinions.
jcsaleen posted four cars with some "greater than" signs and offered none of what the thread starter wanted.
i only asked him for the reasons/opinions behind his post as requested by the thread starter.

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions

Am I the only one who owns one of those and didn't pick the one he owns??

I own a spec v and while cheap and reliable (at least for me, I have heard some stories on the forums though) it's still not my favorite car of the bunch. I tried to get my GF to get an RSX type s because I love them, but she wouldn't and instead she got a matrix which is still pretty nice.

You can pick up a sentra spec v pretty cheap, but other than suspension and some turbo kits there aren't a lot of serious mods for them like there are for the integra and RSX. They also don't have a lot of suspension travel like the integra and rsx.

I also like the integra type r / gsr, but a mildly moded gsr is slower than a stock spec v.

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions

I'm very impressed with the speed 3, it did excellent when car and driver tested it against the 06 impreza. It beat the impreza by a good number around the track and the 0-60 is pretty admirable.
