Re: 2004 EVO VIII or 2004Audi S4
Yeah, but the Evo weighs a lot less and the Audi weighs almost 4000 pounds.
I say it would be a driver's race til about 70 and after that the Audi should slowly pull away. Btw, I just read an article where audi said that they're not going to continue this horsepower war against BMW and Benz because it's going out of hand. They said that eventually, to make any car faster and reliable at the same time, you'll need a bigger engine. With a bigger engine, you'll have more weight. To compensate for the weight gain, you'll need more HP, which means you'll need a bigger engine to be... They said they'll concentrate more on the driving pleasure side rather than who has better 2 ton monsters that are fast 0-60, which I agree. |

Just saw a test on the S4 yesterday, 5.1 sec 0-60 as per Car and Driver. The Evo is pretty close to that too.

S4's were never faster then any evo's.
the old twin turbo S4's were 14 second cars. the new V8 S4 is a high 13 second car. the current watered down EVO 8 is a low 13 cars the japanese version are mid 12 second cars. bottom line i'm not impressed with the S4 at all. i can probrably take it from a roll.

I know you can't just watch a video and make a decision, but top gear really do take their cars to the limit.
The S4's numbers were just a tad slower on the straightaway than the M3 and pretty much equivelant at the track. http://www.gofastvideo.com/gallery/i....-audi-s4.html |

Re: 2004 EVO VIII or 2004Audi S4
I'd give it to the Evo8 for reasons already mentioned

B5 S4's run low 13s... And I dont think you would take a S4 from a roll. You would hang for a bit but there top speed demons... like most german sports cars. The Evo is faster though 1/4 and track wise though.

Re: 2004 EVO VIII or 2004Audi S4
From a dig, EVO, from a roll, Audi. Like the discussion in the ///M5 v GTP thread, most German cars have a very high top end, so if the race is from a roll, or goes on for a distance, the S4 will win, but if its a short run from a dig, I think I'd put my money on the Audi. On a side note, the Audi as a 4.2L 340HP V8, the ///M3 as a 3.2L 333HP I6. The Audi only puts out about 7 more HP than the ///M3, despite having a full liter and 2 more cylinders. I officialy declare my love for the I6 Motor...

Re: 2004 EVO VIII or 2004Audi S4
Hey tat, you probably could take one from a roll because it's AWD and depending how far the race goes, but I really don't know because I don't know how much lighter your car is. You're probably putting around 290-310 at the crank?
But you have to remember that there are a lot more Evos than S4s. A lot of people launch the Evos really hard while a lot of S4 drivers don't, the reason being, it would cost a lot more to replace a clutch on a $50K car with a V8 than a 30K car with a I4. |

TatII if you want to run a S4 come up here and race my boys b4 S4 (the older S4) He only has minor mods like chip, rims, exhaust and 1 or 2 more little things like short shifter I think. I dont know what it runs but he eats evos up all day long. Bring extra doors
