Alternator Fix

I have a Delco 1100581 61Amp on a tractor I took apart every thing works except the diode trio and the internal voltage regulator which both test open in all directions I assembled this way what I want is this alternator to charge if I ground it using the ground tab will this start charging with components as they are? Also could one use a resistor between grounding tab and ground with the right amount of ohms to make this alternator charge say 5 amps fixed ?
