Pick your brain on this one

I`ve got an 88 Fiero with an 85 2.5 rebuilt motor and 86 head and intake. My problem is the car idles at 1000-1500 RPM, when its in gear it calms a little but it sputters when you accelerate. The wiring is shotty but its hooked up right. The vacuum lines are good too. I wana keep the car the way it is cause its good on gas and its quick with the work its had done to it. Anyone have an idea what the problem is and how to fix it without any major repairs?
Help! Anyone! And no im not getting rid of it, just wana fix it.

You say the wiring is shot. I'd suggest a good tune up is in order. Four spark plugs and some wires shouldn't set you back more that $50. When was the fuel filter last replaced? It is a $10 item.

Im not sure, i just picked up the car a few days ago. But now the car wont start(cranks, gets fuel, start for a sec and die out). I think your right, a good tune up is all it needs, mabe some sensors too.

My car did the same thing idled high, then decided not to start at all. My problem was the ignition module its worth a shot as well as new plugs and wires.

I'm not that familiar with the 2.5s, but some of the contributors could be clogged gas filter ($10), air filter, and ignition components.

For V6 engines the modules and coils seem to be problematic. The modules which are not AC Delco are usually suspect. Installation without the heat sink grease application will shorten their life.

Re: Pick your brain on this one

Just found out, the car came with a DIS box and not a standard distributer. Think that might be the problem or would it not matter? It fires now but dosent stay running(I was able to drive it short distances for a few days till this happened),but the problem was the previous guy used scotchlocks on all the connections and I had to use real connectors to solve the problem.
