93 and 94 9000 2.3 turbo differences

What are the differences between the 93 and 94 2.3's? I have a 93 with a bad tranny and other problems, and just bought a 94 with a bad engine. I have been told that these 2 engines are different by 2 dealerships, but with opposite reasons. One said the engine itself was different, the other said the parts that went on it are different, but the engine was the same. I've been looking at both and it looks like most everything bolts on both engines the same, just different shapes, such as the throttle body for example. Any help would be greatly appreciated, the wife really wants to get her new Saab running.

If i remember correctly, it was the engine block that was a bit diffrent in 94`So they had to modify the gear casing a bit.
