Manualy clearing trouble codes from computer
Can you manually erase engine trouble codes from the computer without bringing it in to the dealer or a garage?
My "Service Engine Soon" light came on,so I took it in to the dealer and they told me it was my upstream Oxygen Sensor. They charged me $50.00 just for that. They want another $50.00 just to clear the code. I changed the sensor and I just want to clear the code. |

Odd, I just had to replace the O2 sensor on my 99 GXE too at 105,000 km (65,200 miles). The code has been cleared, but it keeps coming on within a day or two. The dealer checked the harness and found water in the connector at the other end of the harness. They cleaned it up and applied di-electric grease. Guess what? The bloody light came on again the next day. I thought the whole idea behind these electronic diagnostics was to point to problems and expedite their repair.

Sometimes disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will clear the code.

If disconnecting the battery does'nt work some cars require you to disconnect both battery terminals and touch the disconnected ends together to drain out the remaining power.

Re: Manualy clearing trouble codes from computer
Do they have Auto Zone stores where you live? They cleared the code out of mine for me, they have the tool there. It was free!

If you have solved the problem than the CEL will go out on its own after 40 drive cycles. In other words it will automatically purge. Of course this is only valid if no other problems are encountered during this time.
