Need help 97 saturn sl2

My car was burning a lot of oil and my intake was caked with black carbon gook so I decide to clean the egr valve now white smoke comes out if tail pipe...went to pick a part got another egr still smokes ...

Try some seafoam? It will make it smoke a lot when you first add it but does wonders cleaning build up. Then again all my Saturns always smoked! Regular fuel system additives I put in the gas tank fowled my plugs immediately. Hope this helps

With the EGR valve removed , passage ways clean best as possible with a pick , then start the engine hold the gas pedal to the floor a few seconds (it won't rev over 4500 RPM) This will clear it out.
White smoke is usually coolant burning . Was it over heated ? possible head or head gasket.
